Wrath of the Lich King Classic: Flying in Northrend

Once you arrive in the frost-covered lands of Northrend in Wrath of the Lich King Classic ™, your mounts will get you where you need to go, but only on the ground. However, with Cold Weather Flying, you can conquer the biting chill of the Northrend air in no time, so bundle up and get ready.

Getting Flight Certified

To learn Cold Weather Flying, you must be level 77 and know Expert Riding or Flight Form (Druids). When you're ready, head to the following trainers to learn:

  • Hira Snowdawn, who roams Krasus' Landing in Dalaran. Hira also offers the Tome of Cold Weather Flight, which allows your alts to learn Cold Weather Flying at level 68.
  • Roxi Ramrocket at K3, Storm Peaks.
  • Pilot Vic at River's Heart, Sholazar Basin

Reputation Helps

While learning Expert and Artisan Riding skills through the Cold Weather Flying trainers is possible, you can benefit from reputation discounts from Maigra Keenfeather in Valiance Keep (Alliance) or Wind Rider Sabamba in Warsong Hold (Horde) in Borean Tundra.

Also, depending on your reputation, there may be deeper discounts through Hargen Bronzewing at Honor Hold or Wind Rider Jahubo at Thrallmar in Hellfire Peninsula.

Slightly Used Is Slightly New…to Someone

Need a lift but don't have Cold Weather Flying yet? No worries. A loaner mount is available from "Honest" Max at K3 in Storm Peaks for those level 77 or higher. Fair warning, these flying mounts are a little sluggish and somewhat stubborn; they will only fly at 60% within Storm Peaks, Sholozar Basin, and Icecrown.

Don't Leave Your Alts Grounded

After your first character has reached level 80 and has Cold Weather Flying, you'll be able to get the Tome of Cold Weather Flight from Hira Snowdawn for your alts. Each alt that you plan to level through Northrend will need to be sent a Tome of Cold Weather Flight if you want them to be able to take to the skies at level 68.
