The Video Game Music Choir is no stranger to the music of World of Warcraft, having previously adapted tracks from Wrath of the Lich King back in 2010. These talented students enchanted us with their haunting performance and, much to our pleasure, they’ve done it again with their latest project, bringing to life a beloved song from the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm soundtrack.
To kick-off our World of Warcraft: Cataclysm post mortem series, we sat down with World of Warcraft Lead Quest Designer Dave “Fargo” Kosak to discuss his thoughts on questing in Cataclysm.
Players across Azeroth have recently embraced a new, very personal achievement: leveling a character "Iron Man" style. What started out as only a small movement, this bare bones, no-frills style of play has now transformed into a community-wide call-to-arms known as the Iron Man WoW Challenge, inviting World of Warcraft enthusiasts to see how close they can get to level cap with only the barest of necessities.
Over two million people are now following our Warcraft Facebook page! To show you how much we love you for "Liking" us, we've released a new desktop wallpaper image featuring Azeroth's favorite newlyweds, Thrall and Aggra, standing together against the fury of the Maelstrom.
For quite some time now, players have been asking for a location in which to store important keepsakes including treasured armor sets, unique quest rewards, and gifts from friends, as well as other valuable items they’ve collected on their journeys throughout Azeroth. This is a feature we’ve wanted to add to the game for a while, so we’re excited to announce that, thanks to the ingenuity and entrepreneurship of the Ethereals, a new long-term storage option will soon be available to completionists and collectors alike.
In addition to the new iLevel 365 gear that players can purchase from unlockable vendors at the Molten Front and the epic armor sets they can claim from Ragnaros and his minions in the Firelands raid, patch 4.2 also boasts a wealth of cool items for collectors and completionists alike.
After the druids and their allies thwarted the invasion of Hyjal by the Twilight's Hammer and Ragnaros, an air of peace settled on the sacred mountain. As new growth bloomed across the region, members of the Earthen Ring and Cenarion Circle, along with the noble Dragon Aspects, convened at the ancient World Tree of Nordrassil...
Following the Cataclysm, Ragnaros's elemental minions assaulted Mount Hyjal in a bid to set the ancient World Tree of Nordrassil ablaze. Although the Guardians of Hyjal and their allies heroically repelled this invasion, their work on the sacred mount is far from over. In the newly healed Regrowth, Archdruid Malfurion Stormrage and his comrades have transformed the Sanctuary of Malorne into a staging ground for an assault on Ragnaros's domain: the Firelands. Thus far, their efforts have been frustrated by a resurgence in elemental activity that has engulfed the Regrowth and divided Malfurion's forces.
Fortified citadels lie in ruins. Once-verdant forests burn brightly in the twilight of the setting sun. And arid stretches of desert, known to have claimed even the heartiest of travelers, now house fertile oases.
We're always looking for ways to improve World of Warcraft and, for Cataclysm, we introduced several UI features and new types of technology to help make questing more accessible, more immersive, and, most importantly, more fun! You've probably already encountered many of these mechanics as you've explored post-shattering Azeroth, but we still wanted to take some time to discuss their purpose and functionality with you, as well as get your feedback on how they've contributed to your leveling experience this expansion.
Some players use macros and some players don't. It all depends on how you like to play the game.
New Player Tips is a recurring feature in which we ask World of Warcraft veterans to share their thoughts and advice for new adventurers on a variety of in-game topics. This week's topic is: macros.
Some players are dedicated to collecting sets of epic gear while others prefer to make a few quick coins in the auction house. No matter what style of play you prefer, we want to equip you with the tools and knowledge you need to protect yourself against account compromise. To help get you started, below you’ll find a series of tips and suggestions aimed at improving your account and computer security.
In previous polls and forum discussions, we’ve focused a lot on PvE content: which new quest zone was your favorite, how you celebrate certain holiday events, and even if you’ve been slaughtered by local wildlife. But PvE is only one (delicious) slice of the World of Warcraft pie.
In the three months that the new World of Warcraft community site has been live, we've received a lot of feedback from you about its features and the content we've been highlighting.
From the twisted hillsides of the Twilight Highlands to the sunken depths of Vashj'ir, the new level 80-85 zones in Cataclysm offer a wide variety of content for seasoned veterans to explore. There are harrowing escapes, daring rescues, questionable laboratory experiments, and, of course, droves of creatures to kill without mercy.
New Player Tips is a recurring feature in which we ask World of Warcraft veterans to share their thoughts and advice for new adventurers on a variety of in-game topics. This week's topic: Key bindings.
Okay, so that's not entirely true. We are curious, however, about all the fun things you did this Winter Veil. Maybe you became an Assistant Professor in Archaeology, earned your first stone drake, or even struck it rich on the Auction House. Whether you were naughty or nice, we'd like to know what activities you chose to focus on during the holidays.
Welcome back to New Player Tips, our recurring feature in which we ask World of Warcraft veterans to share their thoughts and advice for new adventurers on a variety of in-game topics. This week's subject is: the Auction House.
Off the coast of Dun Morogh, beneath the sunlit reaches of the Great Sea, swims the arbiter of the deep. Known to many as simply “the whale shark,” this legendary leviathan patrols the sunken ruins of Vashj’ir, casually devouring any inattentive or overzealous adventurers who cross its path.
Fortified citadels lay in ruins. Ancient forests burn brightly in the light of the setting sun. Arid stretches of desert, once known to claim even the most hearty of travelers, now house fertile oases teeming with new species of flora. The Shattering changed a great many things. While the landscapes of the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor may have been the most visibly affected by Deathwing's return, many of Azeroth's heroes have also undergone drastic transformations of their own.
With the release of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, new adventurers are joining the ranks of the Horde and the Alliance almost every day. Though these players are able to learn quite a bit through our in-game tutorials and community guides, when you're learning the ropes, nothing really beats the wisdom of an experienced player. That's why each week we'll be reaching out to all of our veterans for tips, tricks, and trade secrets about a variety of different topics to help put new recruits on the path to success. To kick things off, this week's inaugural topic is: questing.
As many of you have already discovered, one of the focal points of the new World of Warcraft community site is, well… you! Not only do you have a variety of controls at your fingertips, but you’re now represented by unique 3D renders of your in-game characters. These new character images will appear in your Armory profile, in the character card once you’re logged in, and whenever you post a comment or reply. A number of players have been asking for more information about how these 3D renders, so we’ve put together an FAQ to explain how they work and how they’re created.
Azeroth's capital cities, once bastions of trade and commerce, are now under siege by forces from the Elemental Planes. While faction leaders have recently established Evacuation Portals throughout each city, allowing concerned denizens to safely escape before the next full-scale invasion occurs, we understand that accidents still happen. In the event of an emergency, for example, you may become trapped, separated from your evacuation party, or be otherwise unable to reach a secure location.
It's a question you've been asking us for a little while now. And, based on all the posts, emails, petitions, and letters we received following the announcement that the Insane in the Membrane achievement would no longer be in available in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, we started to wonder if maybe we had gone a bit loco.
